The fact that merino wool can absorb an astonishing 35% of its weight in water, without feeling wet, and rapidly discharge it into the environment makes it the most breathable material around.

"The Kaibab 300 was recently put through the ringer while on a military course in CFB Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canada. The assessed portion of this course was a 12 day exercise entirely outdoors (minus a brief forced rest period every four days). CFB Gagetown is an extremely damp training area. For most of the course, the average humidity was about 90%, some days of heavy rain, and daytime highs of 10 to 15'C and lows of 0 to -4 'C. This base layer did an excellent job of keeping me warm despite the cold and damp weather and the hood saw its fair share of use."
