Good Jacket, Lacks Loft

"Good but not as lofty as my Taiga Downlite. I was going to return but the lack of loft fits better under my shell (Sitka Jetstream) so the Taiga compresses to the same density under a shell. FYI, the Ptarmagan is Large and the shell is XL. The image shows the Taiga on the left and Skre on the right."

Best puffy jacket ever

"This jacket is literally the best jacket ever. I ordered it in the ash brown color to wear while glassing and out and about during winter. And this jacket beat all my expectations by a long shot. Super warm, nice fit, and best of all wind resistant. I wore it in 30+ mph wind gusts and didn’t even feel the wind. Would highly recommend!"

Damaged

"Received item damaged. Complete return damaged item for exchange. Received email stating return is under review over 48 hours ago and no further response from skre. Have attempted to contact Skre customer service and phone just rings and review voicemail that they are busy with other customers. I question if they even have anyone answering the customer service phone line."

Puffy

"I like the jacket very much and it does seem to be quite warm. The sizing and the quality of the manufacture are high quality. I have another 850 down jacket which has a better loft but inferior zippers and no hood. I was anticipating an inside zip pocket but the outside pocket is better for accessibility but possibly less for security. All in all it is an excellent jacket. I read a suggestion that it could be layered with a hardscrabble but Im not sure that this would work with 2 "large" size jackets."

great jacket

"warm and comfy, tight fit so check sizing chart first. got 1 for me and 1 for the wife and like it. if you're looking for a down jacket, that's the one i'd recommend."

Mike R. (5/5)

I have purchased 2 of

"I have purchased 2 of these now, 1 for me and 1 for my wife. We both. love them, Great fit. We allow for 1 size up. to allow for extra layers."

Michael H. (5/5)

Good jacket

"Nice well made jacket. I really haven’t worn it in any lower temperatures cause of the time of year I bought it but it seems like just what I need."

Andrew F. (5/5)

Down Jacket

"Comfortable fitting jacket - perfect weight for the spring. I decided to chose the olive colour and love it!"

Scott E. (5/5)

Great Product

"I’ve guided in this jacket all spring. Love everything about it. Very warm and lightweight."

Kenny (5/5)

Worth the money

"I have been using the jacket and pants for a couple years now. I started wearing the jacket every day to test the durability and quality. There is a little feather loss but not much to be concerned with. It works great as a layering system. The pack ability is outstanding. The only thing that could be improved is that there is no attachment points for using this with other layers such as the hard scrabble jacket. I would recommend this product to anyone."

Q&A

Where is this product made?
All SKRE gear is designed, tested, and field-proven here in the U.S. by our team and trusted hunters. We manufacture overseas so we can use the materials, factories, and technical processes required to build high-performance hunting gear—while still keeping pricing reasonable and quality extremely high. Every piece goes through strict quality control, and we back it with a lifetime warranty and hands-on customer service based here in the U.S. If something ever fails, we take care of it—no runaround. We fully respect the preference for U.S.-made gear, and we’re always evaluating opportunities to bring more production stateside as it makes sense. Our priority is building gear that performs in the field and standing behind it for life. Appreciate you asking and considering SKRE.
Will this material hold up to briars?
That’s a great question. This jacket is designed for packing in, layering, and staying warm during cold sits. Its main focus is being lightweight and highly insulated. Because of that, the exterior fabric isn’t built to handle heavy briars or brush.
How windproof is this jacket
Great question! The Ptarmigan Jacket is highly wind-resistant, designed to block the majority of wind while still allowing some breathability. It’s not 100% windproof like a hard shell, but the outer nylon fabric and high-fill down insulation create a strong barrier that keeps you warm even in harsh wind conditions. If you’re looking for full windproof protection, layering it under a soft shell like the Nebo or Hardscrabble Jacket works perfectly.
What denier thickness is the exterior shell fabric?
Thank you for your inquiry! The face fabric of our Ptarmigan Jacket and pants are 100% nylon. We do not measure by denier, we measure by GSM. The nylon face fabric of the Down Pant and Jacket is 48 GSM.
Is the slate gray color really just black? It’s hard to tell in the featured photos and customer photos but they all make it appear black, just wanted some clarity on that specific color. Thanks
It is very close to black but not a deep black. color.
